To ensure that the photograph best reflects its qualities, I will create a drawing from the photograph in an artistic charcoal pencil style that aims for as recognizable facial features as possible. The image will first be processed, after which the background will disappear. With a little extra effort, it's also possible to leave the background partially if it's important to include it in the image, but the current model removes the background.
Below is the original image as well as a couple of different style image processing models in black and white. The image can be regenerated if it's not pleasing initially.
The next step is to treat the plywood with a baking soda solution that is brushed onto the surface of the plywood. Once the surface is dry, it is sanded. After this, it is possible to start "burning" a photograph onto the plywood.
The price for an A4 sized (approximately 30x21cm) image is 100€. The engraving of an untreated photograph is approximately 75€.
The price for an A3 sized (approximately 60x40cm) treated image is about 200€. However, the price is always determined by the engraving time and the material. I use 9-12mm thick birch plywood as a material, but all thicknesses available on the market can be requested.
Below is the final result engraved with a diode laser. The result is truly high quality.
I can also carve a photograph as it is, but usually if the image is not really carefully considered, it is difficult to bring out all the details of the image. Below is an example of a direct photograph carved onto A4.
